Biography - Scott Hills
Instrument: drummer/percussionist/educator
Passionate about his music, Scott Hills is one of the busiest drummers in the country today. He's is known locally on the NSW north coast for his various styles ranging from R & B, New Orleans Funk, Pop, Jazz and Rock yet regularly performs alongside the likes of Graeme Connors, Melinda Schneider, The Flood, The McClymonts and Sara Storer in the Australian country music scene. The Flood have recently won a golden guitar award for "Group of the year". More recently Scott was called upon as drummer for the reforming of famous Australian Jazz Fusion group Crossfire.
In 1998 he was a finalist in Australia's Best Up and Coming Drummer Competition. Since then he has toured nationally with various artists, played many times on national Television and is in popular demand for recorded performances. He has played on albums, videos, webcasts, DVD's and live to air concerts and loves the variety in his work. Scott has chosen to live on the North Coast of NSW largely due to the lifestyle and musicians who also live and work there. Local to the northern rivers, world renowned jazz guitarist Jim Kelly (Crossfire) and Scott have been playing together regularly since 1997 in a number of exciting bands.
Like performing, music education has become one of Scott's passions. Scott has years of teaching experience and currently he is teaching in various North Coast schools, Colleges and Music Institutions as well as privately from home. Scott teaches over sixty students weekly. As an educator, Scott enjoys the teaching of advanced drumming concepts and technique yet specialises in all styles of music, from jazz and country to pop and rock. He is also passionate about world music, hand percussion and modern styles utilising technology for electronic drum/percussion sequencing and sampling. Scott's teaching focuses heavily on musicianship, composition and practical application of drumming techniques. He has also tutored in ensemble and improvisational training, rhythm reading and rhythm workshops.
Scott's music career is keeping him busy and he hopes to continue pursuing new performance and teaching experiences.
